Japanese Acupuncture

Deborah Clarke, LAc and Michael W. Bowser, MTOM, LAc, practice a uniquely Japanese acupuncture style based upon an east-west integrated understanding of health as taught by one of Japan’s foremost living acupuncture authorities, Kiiko Matsumoto.

Diagnosis
Unlike western medicine, Japanese acupuncture diagnosis relies heavily upon palpation of the pulse and the abdomen. Tender abdominal areas help to determine the diagnosis and treatment. This style of acupuncture provides an almost instantaneous feedback about the correct needle placement. Releasing these painful reflexes has a profound affect on your health.

Treatment
Most acupuncture in the US is practiced in the TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) model, which relies heavily upon local needling, thicker needles and strong stimulation. For some, this may increase their discomfort. Japanese needling technique is gentle, yet very effective.

Other techniques may be added to the treatment such as acupressure, massage therapy, cupping, Chinese dietary recommendations and moxibustion (a warming therapy).

Re-examination
Each time you come in for a treatment, we evaluate your progress by re-assessing your abdomen and pulse. In this way, we can tailor your care to you.

Client Education
We like to share with our patients suggestions that may lessen discomfort and hasten healing. No matter what stage of health you are in, the principles of Asian medicine can help improve the quality of your life.
